Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, 2006

The Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe, was released on June 16, 2006. It is a 25-year plan that aims to:

  • Revitalize downtowns to become vibrant and convenient centres.
  • Create complete communities that offer more options for living, working, learning, shopping and playing.
  • Provide housing options to meet the needs of people at any age.
  • Curb sprawl and protect farmland and green spaces.
  • Reduce traffic gridlock by improving access to a greater range of transportation options.

The Growth Plan has been amended twice since its release in 2006. The first amendment was released in January 2012 and contains new policies, schedules and definitions that apply in the Simcoe Sub-area. The second amendment was released in June 2013 to update and extend the Growth Plan’s population and employment forecasts.

Proposed performance indicators to measure the implementation of the Growth Plan for the Greater Golden Horseshoe have been released for consultation. Read the performance indicators summary report and technical report.
